Learn proven techniques and drills to improve your team's focus, effort and competitiveness. Green Bay Head Coach Matt Bollant shows you how he builds the Phoenix offensive and
defensive systems in a live practice setting.
Bollant's practice starts with a 5-0 offensive shell drill and several drills to teach players to cut, communicate, and play with poise on the offensive end and in their primary and
secondary breaks.
He uses a rapid fire drill for practicing high percentage game shots out of the Phoenix offense. This is followed by full court 2-on-2, 3-on-3, and block-hold-release drills which
emphasize offensive fundamentals in the half-court game and the primary and secondary break. These drills are a great way to help your players make mental transitions during games
and to get your players' "brains flowing."
Teach your players how to be aggressive using full court "blood drills" to build an attack mentality in the open court. Pick up defensive fundamentals with a 3-on-3 Cut Throat Drill
that emphasizes closing out low, communicating with teammates (offensively and defensively), being in a triple threat position, utilizing the jump stop, and making sure his players do
not use a "butt ball" action.
The defensive emphasis continues as Bollant teaches "closeouts inside the V." He uses a 1-on-1 drill to demonstrate how to square up to a defender off the closeout. He puts an emphasis
on teaching high hands, long and low first step, and making sure you don't open the gate. You'll also see a 4-on-3 passing drill to teach defenders how to communicate and pressure
the ball while making your opponent think about their next pass.
The practice session ends with variations of 4-on-4 shell drill. Bollant takes you through his layers of shell to teach his players the cutting and screening action of their motion
offense. He uses 4-on-4 and 5-on-5 shell to create a tough practice mentality and for game preparation on both the offensive and defensive end of the court. You will learn how to
build solid defensive principles and pressure, how to create good help side defense and help the helper action, and how to move and think without the ball. Coach finishes up his
practice with "3 Ways" Drill to put it all together.
Get practice ideas to get your players to think quicker and play faster.

Get the tools you need to implement the same offense that led Matt Bollant to back-to-back 30 win seasons.
Join Coach Bollant and his players as they breakdown the components to this highly effective motion offense. This is not your traditional X's and O's clinic! Coach Bollant stresses
execution, timing, and intensity above running from Point A to Point B. He provides you with high-intensity, fundamental passing and cutting drills will make your team better, one
player at a time. These essential concepts, drills and actions will give every coach insight into what makes the Wisconsin Green Bay program so successful.
Coach Bollant runs his players through their mini-clinic workout drills to start this DVD. His focus on developing the player first is clearly seen and the precise execution of the
drills demonstrate his attention to detail. Drills such as Start, Stop and Turn and his Four Line Drill will develop the fundamentals necessary to have success in any offense--but,
especially in the motion offense. Drills such as the V-Cut and L-Cut drill will help your team learn to initiate this offense through varying speeds and timing.
Bollant doesn't limit his instruction to just the court though. He discusses many aspects that are necessary to developing a solid team. His four ways to communicate a screen are
just as important as his on-court lessons on how to set the screen.
Bollant also runs his team through a series of post drills where the focus is on the work the players do before they catch the ball. This emphasis on footwork and body control will
assist your players in creating easy shots for themselves once the ball arrives.
After coach Bollant covers the proper footwork and post up angles, he introduces you to his 4-out-1-in motion principles necessary to put the offense in place. Understanding the timing
within a fast-flowing offense will make this motion tough to guard physically and mentally.
Lastly, you'll see five highly effective sets that either lead into the motion or can be implemented as quick-hitters to exploit a defense's weakness. With a backdoor play, a 1-4-high
set, 3-point plays and a secondary break, your team will be virtually unstoppable.Matt Bollant's motion fundamentals will allow you to run a quick, fast-flowing motion offense with
such speed and precision your opponents will be left in the dust.

with Mike Divilbiss,
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Associate
Head Women's Basketball Coach
Run with a purpose and take advantage of scoring opportunities after a made or missed basket.
Widely respected women's basketball coach Mike Divilbliss breaks down the secondary break into a system suited for all levels of basketball instruction. Coaches will learn to
implement this system as a means to build a program with consistent winning tendencies over the course of multiple years even through changes in personnel. This DVD features
teaching segments that introduce Coach Divilbiss' philosophy on the secondary break. He teaches how to get the ball in-bounds quickly and details each of the five positions and
their responsibilities.
Watch how Coach Divilbiss explains the secondary break with five key segments:
SECONDARY BREAK BASICS
Coach Divilbiss introduces the secondary break, the basic alignment and rules of the break:
• Each of the five positions and their responsibilities are covered
• Emphasizes the importance of getting the ball inside to the post player
• Stresses quick ball movement ("side-top-side")
for open 3-point shot opportunities
• Teaches proper spacing and how to look for scoring opportunities
before entering into secondary break.
READS
Learn four reads that your players need to know:
• Back screen for trail post
• Down screen for when back screen is overplayed
• Basket or back cut by trail post when ball reversal is denied
• High ball screen for the point guard to create various scoring opportunities
5-4-1 DRILL
This drill is designed for the point guard, trail post man, and lead post man. This drill will:
• Teach your players how to get ball in-bounds quickly and look for lead post man
• Works on "high-low" entries
• Condition your post players for this fast-paced offensive attack
CYCLES
Divilbiss teaches how to utilize all four reads that are used in his secondary break offense:
• Stresses the importance of scoring quickly with "2.5 cycles in 34 seconds"
• Emphasizes the importance of using both sides of the floor
• Talks about the "pitch ahead" pass and how to use it effectively
COLORS
In this drill, Divilbiss runs the secondary break against defense and he provides excellent commentary on:
• Primary fast break vs. secondary break
• Keeping the ball in the middle of the court to improve passing angles
and to enhance quick ball movement
• Being aware of the importance of passing the ball inside
while allowing perimeter players the freedom to shoot 3-point shots
• Making perimeter players interchangeable
This is a DVD that coaches at all levels will find useful in improving their team's play in transition. Coach Divilbiss is thorough, but simple, in explaining how his secondary break
can ignite your team's offense! It is a must have for the serious coach who wants to play up tempo basketball !
Matt Bollant is in his second season as the mentor for the Green Bay women's basketball team and has already made an indelible mark on the lasting success of the Phoenix.
In just his first campaign with Green Bay, Bollant continued the team's storied success by guiding the Phoenix to a 26-6 record and the program's 11th straight postseason berth.
The team's win total marked the 31st consecutive winning season and ninth straight 20-win campaign.
Bollant also brought a new level of excellence to the Horizon League, as the Phoenix posted a 17-1 record against conference foes. The team's 17 wins set a new standard for the
league as the most wins in conference play. For his efforts, Bollant garnered Horizon League co-Coach of the Year accolades.
Further successes of the 2007-08 season include the team's NCAA statistical championship in three-point field goal percentage, the team's 13-game winning streak late in the season,
a 15-2 home record and the team's finest defensive performance in 14 seasons when the Phoenix held Northern Arizona to just 27 points on Dec. 15. For his career, Bollant boasts an
impressive 160-44 record in six seasons as a collegiate head coach for a stellar .784 winning percentage.
Just the third head coach in the storied legacy of Green Bay women's basketball, Bollant arrived in Titletown following five seasons at Bryan (Tenn.) College. In his five seasons as
the program's mentor, Bollant posted a 134-38 record (.779 winning percentage) with the Lady Lions at the NAIA level.
Under Bollant's watch, Bryan made NAIA national tournament appearances in each of the last four seasons. The team advanced as far as the Sweet 16 in 2005-06 with a 26-8 record.
During his first campaign with Bryan in 2002-03, Bollant guided the squad to a team-record 29 wins while appearing in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA)
national tournament.
No stranger to the national polls in his own right, Bollant guided the Lady Lions to the NAIA top 25 national rankings four straight years, peaking at No. 11 at the end of the 2006-07
season.
Along the way, Bollant mentored four Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year honorees in five years: Brittany Swanson (2006 and 2007) and Liz Bass (2003 and 2004).
Bollant also instilled the importance of academic success at Bryan. His teams posted an overall grade point average of 3.1 or higher all five seasons, with 40 percent of his players
earning academic all-conference honors.
Also of note, Bollant served as the chair for the NCCAA Mideast Region from 2004-07.
Prior to his appointment at Bryan, Bollant served as an assistant coach for former Green Bay women's basketball standout Kathi Bennett at Indiana University for two seasons and at the
University of Evansville for three years. Bollant and Indiana made back-to-back postseason appearances with the team's trip to the NCAA tournament in 2002 and the WNIT in 2001.
The 2002 squad won the Big Ten tournament for the first and only time in Indiana history.
As an assistant for Bennett at Evansville, Bollant aided his mentor in turning the Purple Aces program from a struggling one into a conference champion. After posting just six victories
and one Missouri Valley Conference win in 1997-98, Evansville rallied to claim the MVC tournament title the following year as the Aces made their first NCAA tournament appearance in
program history.
Evansville then went on to go 23-7 in 1999-00, setting a school record for victories and making a trip to the WNIT. In that season, Bollant assisted the Aces in a 72-50 win over Green
Bay in Evansville.
Bollant got his head coaching start at Tigerton (Wis.) High School, where he led the Tigers to an impressive 63-10 record over three years, including a 22-1 mark during the 1996-97
campaign. His teams won Central Wisconsin Conference-Small School titles each of those three seasons.
While still in college in 1992, Bollant served as the varsity and junior varsity head coach of Deeper Life Academy in the Philippines, where both teams combined for a 15-1 record.
A 1994 graduate of Winona State (Minn.) University with a degree in business education, Bollant also has a master's degree in education from American Intercontinental University.
Born March 13, 1971, Bollant and his wife, Kari, have two daughters: Abi (10), and Regan (7). The family resides in Green Bay.
